Getting to know Casa Albergo Nursing Home

Casa Albergo was founded in 1972 in the desire to promote what was at the time a new idea of residency: offering a place to live for older people who, although still self-sufficient, wished to meet protection, care, and safety while maintaining their own autonomy. Hence, the name Casa Albergo, where the term Casa- Home is meant to convey the idea of a private space, and Albergo- Hotel refers instead to the welcome and attention usually reserved for a guest. In fact, some floors of the structure accommodate small apartments, where residents can enjoy the intimacy of their own homes, also thanks to the possibility of decorating them with their own objects and furniture thus helping to recreate a familiar and personal environment.

A total of 125 self-sufficient and 42 non-self-sufficient older adults are now living at Casa Albergo. What continues to distinguish Casa Albergo from other residential facilities is the desire to keep it open to the community outside its walls by organizing recreational and cultural activities and events. In addition to services typical of a caring facility, such as nurses, social and health workers, physicians, psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists (…), Casa Albergo offers music, book exchange, mindfulness classes, art workshops, and many other initiatives that aim to sustain a continuous dialogue between inside and outside, and to keep residents active and involved by providing stimuli and opportunities of different kinds.  

Although located in the historic center of Treviso, Casa Albergo is surrounded by a beautiful garden, full of flowers and trees. Strolling around, especially on sunny mornings and afternoons, it is not uncommon to encounter Elio, the house’s guardian cat, keeping watch over passers-by. However, like all cats, he goes in and out of the house at will through its thousands of (more or less) secret passages, including the window of the director’s study!
